Yes! I agree, I only recently started a seperate account for my knitting and the community has been so lovely, crafting was defo a lifeline for me in destressing, we should not feel inadequate in our own craft for sure, we all have our own pace!

I’ve had to have a word with myself today coz I’ve noticed that despite this being a conversation in my mind, I’m actually feeling quite a lot of pressure to make stuff. It’s a hell no; I need to go at a different speed 🫶🏾

Thank you for this! I really cherish the online knitting community, however I’ve felt this a lot recently whenever I go on Instagram. I even got a repetitive strain injury last year from knitting too much, as I was deep into this feeling of needing to knit ‘more’. It completely went against the reason I began (and love) knitting, so trying to focus on knitting a lot more intentionally this year!

Hey! Im glad it resonated, and I totally get it, I've been caught in that trap every time I see a new pattern, and usually if I just give it some time I can see more clearly whether or not I would actually make / wear it.

LOL. I was just scrolling past all of the videos with the stack of sweaters and feeling a little inadequate...I wondered (seriously) how fast did they knit and what I was doing wrong besides having other things to do. Thank you for this post.

I honestly believe the algorithm is pushing everything too far :/

I feel you! I feel like instagram is a great place to get inspiration and tips for knitting, but at the same time it feels addictive and the pressure to perform and influenced to knit what’s popular or take pictures a certain way feels like it’s not as true to self or intentional as I’d want to be

I was surprised to see how many people felt pressure to be making more stuff because of Instagram. It does feel like there’s a new trendy pattern every week, which is great but also a bit much!

Yea I feel like pattern makers are creating new patterns at a much faster rate than even just a couple years ago when I first started knitting! Also noticed there were a lot more summer knitting patterns this past year

I agree I’ve noticed a bit spike this last year, and I don’t know if it’s just me but a lot of patterns are sooooo similar!
