As the name of this substack might give away, nature, gardens and plants might be my thing.
A few years ago, well actually quite a few years now, I took one of my many detours in terms of life trajectory… One that sent me from fashion week to university studying Herbal Medicine. Plot twist, I know!
One of my teachers, during my time there, gave me a piece of a Marshmallow root (Althea officials) which I proudly managed to grow back to a full blooming plant. I couldn’t go back.
I was immediately hooked on the idea of growing plants not just solely for decorative purposes, but for a real use, a luxury most of us in London flats struggle with. Studying their medicinal properties of course lead me to become more and more interested in growing these incredibly plants. From my tiny London flat, strapped for cash, I tried growing things out of old drawers, and anything that would double up as a pot.
Now that I finally have a space that I can fill with plants, which have the luxury of remaining planted there permanently, not always being scurried off to a new flat or house share, it only made the most sense to start the house “renovations” with the garden.
Im starting with a mix of quick growing edible herbs, which are still rich in medicinal properties, and as nature would have it, are helpful in aiding digestion!
Here are the top herbs Im growing and some of their uses!
